en-Drones successfully tested to inspect maritime assets

14/10/2017

Drones can safely go where humans can't. With this in mind, the maritime industry has steadily welcomed the technology to avoid when possible humans inside enclosed spaces. The idea is, during an inspection, to replace current techniques that require crew, surveyors or independent inspectors to enter dangerous and potentially hazardous tanks with routine remote UAV inspection. This significantly reduces risk to human life during essential maintenance, reduces costs, and increases efficiency.

Successful tests with UAVs were carried out. Various inspections and surveys of ballast tanks on vessels and containerships, cargo tanks of floating production storage and off-loading vessel, or remote structural components in cargos and ships tanks were performed by different actors of the industry including independent surveyor, classification societies and sipping companies. Flyability Elios played an important role in multiple of these tests.
